What a GREAT 2009 Season!!

My apologies for missing BOTH season end celebrations this week! I can't believe that I made it through the season healthy but then am sick the week of all the parties! DRAT. THAT is not nice... :-( At least I stayed healthy enough to have pie after Burnet and share some stories and celebrating this last weekend. Yay for that!!!! :-)

I have to say that the Tri Zones athletes this year have been by far the most driven and therefore the most successful athletes of any season I can remember. You all are amazing!! The accomplishments of some of you rookie athletes is just simply incredible; above and beyond what most rookies usually do. Certainly MUCH more than I achieved in my first season (I did one measly tri my first season!)!! Holy cow... Quite impressive! You should be very, very proud. I wish I could have heard more of the season memories and stories that were told this week... If you ever want to repeat them, feel free to shoot them my way in an e-mail (cindy.burton@trizones.com) or retell them at a future party. Or maybe it is time to start keeping that race report journal. Whatever you do from here, don't ever forget the sweetness of your first season... :-) And sometimes it takes more than 10 words Andrew... ;-)

In fact, the way you new triathletes are going for it, us veterans(at least me anyway!) are feeling you hot on our heels!!!! You certainly are inspiring me to keep up my progress and goals. Thank you for that!! But whatever you do from here, just remember that if this is in fact a new lifestyle for you, you have the rest of your lives to make progress. Let Jody remind you of just how long you have to keep going for your goals. So, don't rush things so much that you get injured. Don't rush things so much that you don't enjoy the process. And don't rush things so much that you have no other life. In line at Bluebonnet Cafe this last weekend, Julie W. commented that she has to limit her training goals because she kind of likes spending time with her husband and keeping that relationship healthy in her life. I SO admire her for saying that. She sets a great example for us in making family a priority and having a life outside of triathlon.

So, as you make your goals forward, there are all kinds of way to make progress. One season, I just worked on running but ran without my watch just getting back to the joy of running. Another winter, I focused on just shorter races and used the Tri Zones track workouts to get more speed out of my run. One winter, I biked obsessively, even in the coldest, iciest conditions. It is possible to bike all year long; ask me and some of the other Tri Zoners about cold weather bike gear and tips!! Swimming and weight work was my focus this last winter after a nice well-needed recovery period. The off season is a chance to take on some of those extra little goals that sometimes get lost in the season of races. And if you stay with Tri Zones, you will have lots of teammates and coaches to support you on whatever path you choose. It is all about you, after all... :-) And if you are not sure quite what to do in the off season, be sure to talk to one of us and let's get you on the right track!

My goal race is on Novemeber. So, I am hoping once I get that past me, I will have another little season end celebration at my house. Stay tuned for that notice and let's celebrate again!!

What a GREAT 2009 season!!

Happy Off Season to all of you!!
Yeeeeeeeha!

Sorry you've been sick!

There's never a good time for that!  Hope you're feeling better and ready for the home stretch of training before IMFL!
