Austin Distance Challenge

The Distance Challenge is 7 road races with a combined mileage of over 100 miles. Distance Challenge particpants get perks at some of the races (finishing tent, separate packet pickup). Of course, everyone really signs up for the cool jacket (and bragging rights).

Austin Runners Club

The Austin Runners Club is over 300 members strong. They are organized exclusively for charitable, health, and educational fitness in the Austin community through running and related activities for the general public, to provide a forum for runners, joggers, and walkers of all levels, and to aid in training to all members. ARC publishes a very informative newsletter, offers group training runs each week, and hosts several races each year including the Decker Challenge and the Daisy 5K.

Barton Creek Greenbelt

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is one of the crown jewels of Austin. Popular with trail runners, hikers, mountain bikers, rock climbers, swimmers (in swimming holes), and even spelunkers! The trail is about 7 miles long, from Barton Springs to the "Hill of Life" (Camp Craft Access).

The trails are gorgeous and offer many interesting geological features. The city will close the trail after heavy rains, so when in doubt, call the hotline at 472-1267.

There are numerous access points -- try different ones to see different parts of the trail! (See the link for details about the different trailheads and a map of the greenbelt)

Brushy Creek Regional Trail

Bull Creek District Park

Bull Creek Park is the southern terminus of the 3.5 mile Bull Creek Greenbelt trail. Bull Creek Foundation has 32 square miles of ecologically unique terrain to tend and protect. Bull Creek watershed includes limestone seeps, springs, and waterways; scenic cliffs and waterfalls; interesting archaeological and cultural features and more.

The park is one of Austin's dedicated off-leash dog parks. It is also the southern end of the Bull Creek Greenbelt Trail, which runs north along both sides of the creek for 3.5 miles to the northern terminus just off of Old Spicewood Springs Road.
